Independence day and birthday Megan
Day 24 GDMBR Friday July 4th 2025,
I slept well in slept in too. I went up (I sleep in the basement) and started singing “happy birthday” for and to Megan who was in the kitchen cooking. She was very surprised after this song and I did buy several presents; I bought two different sweets, because Megan likes sweets very much. Also, I bought the two, credit card thin air tags, not from the Apple company, but could be connected in the “find my” system from Apple! It could be charged on contact charge pad, and did hold their charge for up to 4 months. Alex and Megan received one and were very happy with the device.
After the breakfast I did go to the airfield for model airplanes, that was 20 km from the home of Alex and Megan. I had the opportunity to use their car again, which I am very grateful of and went to the airfield. It was an airfield that was situated in a very open area, which made safe flying easier.
There were several people flying their little planes. After parking the car, I went to see the men. I was directed to “the guy to ask”, his name was Jim and I told him my story and asked if I could use the area for flying the drone exercises. Jim said the guys that were there, wouldn’t mind, although they shouldn’t do it. In the end I was free to use the air around the big field next to the runway where the model planes, as long as I wasn’t above the airfield itself or too nearby. I said what my plans were and went to the edge of the field and went to work. I started to work the cheat sheets I printed and brough along at the first pages. After a short while the battery I started with a half-filled battery. Even though I did charge all 4 batteries completely full at home. I went through all (half-filled) batteries in the end and I had done some of the exercises and was happy with the result. Jim came along and we talked some, he was retired (about 10 years younger than me) and was in the military. Now he was working in the university where he worked with pleasure in general. Only the “orders” weren’t always followed by; “okay”. In the military you always had to follow orders. In University you could expect “no”, something to get used to! In the end he asked if he could follow me, after hearing what I planned to do. He received the address and we said goodbye. Another great conversation with an interesting person!
I went back home and first went to “best Buy” to buy an Air-Tag for attaching on the drone, so I could find the drone when it went out of sight. I couldn’t find the Air-Tag case I did like. In the end I bought the Dog collar case for the Air-Tag. I would adjust the case so it would definitely could be attached on my drone. When I came home, I first started charging the batteries of the Drone and Alex had some very sticky Velcro tape. After charging I will try to find the way to get a good place to attached the Air-Tag. I will tell you all about it, how it evolved.
I finished the Thursday Polarsteps and posted it. Also started the Friday Polarsteps, so far.
We went to a 4th of July party somewhere on the countryside with friends of Megan and Alex. This went great, Megan’s birthday was celebrated, Alex made it cute with curled candles and M & M’s. The whole party sang for Megan who was happy with the attention. I didn’t know anyone but talked with several of the party.
Two were nurses too; one was assisting the surgeon and anesthesiologist in a small hospital. The work in the Netherlands is separated; or you are assisting the surgeon or assisting the anesthesiologist, but that is also in a much larger hospital.
The other nurse was a nurse to be, 1/3 of the way to become a fully registered nurse. She was working in making bike packing bags, a totally different job!
Several people had made different types of food for the party, so there were several salads, bread, cake and hotdogs. The children were setting off fireworks in the garden, although it was still light. A water hose was there to put out starting fires. A lot of fun to be on such a national party with the Americans having a lot of fun and who were very proud of their country, in general…
We left the party when it became dark and we went to the living of Megan’s mother. Here we picked up her mother and a friend of her. We took the car to the top of the (free parking!) garage of the hospital. Darkness was set in and we all looked at the city fireworks, which were great and fabulous! I took several pictures to post with this story.
We went to bed late. It was another great day!
